Box Score The Waterloo women's hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Western Mustangs on Saturday afternoon at the CIF Arena.
With the loss the Warriors drop to 8-12-3 on the season but got some help from Toronto who defeated York 4-3 which keeps Waterloo in the eighth spot with 19 points, four ahead of York. With the win the Mustangs improved to 17-5, good for fourth spot in the OUA.
Kendra Deller opened up the scoring for the Mustangs when she slid home a rebound between the legs of
Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia/) at 16:23 of the first period. The goal would snap Bouwhuis' shutout streak of 159:13 dating back to Waterloo's game against Windsor on January 20.
Nearly midway through the second period
Marlowe Pecora would add to the Mustangs lead when she netted the second goal of the contest, giving the Mustangs the 2-0 advantage.
Western would extend their lead to 3-0 early in the third as Madison Turk put home her second goal of the season on the powerplay. Waterloo would add a late goal by
Emma McMillan (Hastings/) but it would be too late as Turk would fire home her second into the empty net, making the final 4-1 for the visiting side.
Bouwhuis allowed three goals on 24 shots while Mustang's goalie Olivia Ross was the busier of the two netminders making 29 saves on 30 shots.
Waterloo will look to bounce back today as they face the Brock Badgers who lost 8-0 to the Laurier Golden Hawks yesterday. Game time is set for 2pm and it can be seen live on SSN Canada.
