Box Score The Warriors fell to .500 on the season after a hard fought 3-1 loss to the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday night at the PAC. After taking the first set 27-25, Toronto would win three straight sets (25-22, 27-25, 25-15) to improve to 4-2 on the season. With the loss Waterloo fell to 3-3.
The opening set saw Waterloo fight back from being down 24-21 to take it by a score of 27-25. In the second the two combatants would go back and forth but the Blues would come out on top 25-22.
The third and pivotal set would prove to be the most entertaining of the match with both teams fighting tooth and nail to gain the advantage. Both squads would go point for point before Waterloo would take a 22-20 lead late in the set thanks to some strong hitting by left side
Clara Tse (Hong Kong/). The Blues would however fight back and with some strong outside hitting by Charlotte Sider take the set 27-25.
Unable to recover from the tough third set loss, the Blues would sink the Warriors in the fourth running away with the set 25-15 to capture their fourth win of the season.
Sider led all players with 14 kills in the match and finished with 17.5 points overall. Tessa Davis also contributed to Toronto's attack with 13 kills while adding an impressive seven blocks.
For the Warriors it was Tse and
Gillian Henderson (Ottawa/) who each had 10 kills in a losing effort while Natsha Spaling had nine while adding six blocks. Second year libero
Kristen Bartmann (Uxbridge/) was all over the court with 25 digs several of which kept Waterloo in some intense rallies.
The Warriors will look to bounce back tomorrow night when they host the Ryerson Rams at 8pm in the main gym of the PAC.
