Home struggles continue for women's volleyball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The home struggles continued for the Waterloo Warriors in a pair of weekend games at the PAC as they would drop their third and fourth straight games to Ottawa and Brock.

On Friday the Warriors got off to a hot start against the defending OUA champions taking the first set 25-21 but the Gee-Gees showed why they are one of the top teams in the province and won the next three sets 25-12, 25-16, 25-19.

The Warriors were back in action on Saturday for an afternoon contest with Brock and got off to a sluggish start as the Badgers handed Waterloo a 25-22 opening set loss.  The Warriors would however find their legs in the second set and even the match at 1-set a piece with the 25-21 set victory.

The third and pivotal set would start the way the Warriors would like as they jumped out to a 15-10 lead but Hayley Orr would serve up six straight points to give her Badgers the 16-15 lead.  They two teams would battle back and forth before Shannon Lodoen (Waterloo/) would give Waterloo the 23-22 edge with a perfect dump into the open court.  Unfortunately for the home side the Badgers would tally the next three points and take a 2-1 set lead.

Waterloo would be unable to gain back any lost momentum and the Badgers would cruise to capture the fourth set 25-20 and match 3-1.

With the loss the Warriors dropped to 3-6 on the season and sit in a tie for fourth spot with the Badgers who evened their record at 3-3.

Two different Brock Badgers got into double figures on the attack with fourth year outside hitter Lucy McLay leading the way with 17 kills while Maddie Brown had 12.  Shenise Power added eight kills and four blocks while libero Karlinna O'Leary collected 26 digs in the win.

For Waterloo, Natsha Spaling put away 11 kills with Lodoen and Clara Tse (Hong Kong/) each adding eight.  Danielle Kamps (Vineland Station/) had a solid day of blocking with seven (6 assisted, 1 solo).  Defensively Kristen Bartmann (Uxbridge/) and Gillian Henderson (Ottawa/) each had 13 digs in the loss.

Waterloo will now have almost a full two weeks off before their final game of 2013 in Hamilton against the McMaster Marauders on Friday, November 29.
