The varsity squash team competed in the Jester's West Sectionals this past weekend in London. The Waterloo men's and women's team competed against Western, MacMaster, Guelph, and Laurier.
Playing first against Western, the women skillfully clenched some very close matches to win 4-3. Special mention to
Hannah Dabrowski (Waterloo/) and Adaboa Biney-Assan who both hung in to win in 5, and
Natasha Seth (Fergus/) and
Keeley Levitt (St. Catharines/) who also won. The second match-up was against Laurier who is a new team this year. The women played smart and were able to win 7-0. The last match-up was against MacMaster, where the women showed their strength and speed winning 5-2.
The men were up against Western first as well, and had some tough matches.
Jeff Muirhead (Waterloo/) was the only player able to triumph, winning a close 3-1 match. The final score was 6-1. Against MacMaster, the men couldn't keep pace and lost 5-2 with wins from
Cameron Seth (Fergus/) and
Matthew Mackenzie (Diego Martin/). On Sunday, the men played some smart squash and beat both Laurier and Guelph 7-0.
Overall, the w
omen placed first in the tournament and the
men placed third. Next up for the Warriors is the BK 9 Tournament in Toronto where the men are defending their title. The women will compete on October 26 while the men take to the courts on November 2.
