Squash Report: Women place 1st, men 3rd at Jester's West Sectional

The varsity squash team competed in the Jester's West Sectionals this past weekend in London. The Waterloo men's and women's team competed against Western, MacMaster, Guelph, and Laurier.

Playing first against Western, the women skillfully clenched some very close matches to win 4-3. Special mention to Hannah Dabrowski (Waterloo/) and Adaboa Biney-Assan who both hung in to win in 5, and Natasha Seth (Fergus/) and Keeley Levitt (St. Catharines/) who also won. The second match-up was against Laurier who is a new team this year. The women played smart and were able to win 7-0. The last match-up was against MacMaster, where the women showed their strength and speed winning 5-2.

The men were up against Western first as well, and had some tough matches. Jeff Muirhead (Waterloo/) was the only player able to triumph, winning a close 3-1 match. The final score was 6-1. Against MacMaster, the men couldn't keep pace and lost 5-2 with wins from Cameron Seth (Fergus/) and Matthew Mackenzie (Diego Martin/). On Sunday, the men played some smart squash and beat both Laurier and Guelph 7-0.

Overall, the women placed first in the tournament and the men placed third. Next up for the Warriors is the BK 9 Tournament in Toronto where the men are defending their title.  The women will compete on October 26 while the men take to the courts on November 2.
