Box Score 2 The Waterloo women's volleyball team opened up their season on the road going 1-1 in competition with Nipissing and York over the weekend. It his first game as bench boss, Luke Snider led Waterloo to a straight set victory over the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay. Waterloo led from start to finish to open up their season with the 3-0 (12, 16, 22).
On Saturday night the Warriors were in tough against the OUA finalists from last year, York Lions. After taking the first set 25-20, York took control and handed Waterloo three straight set losses (18, 19, 16).
Gillian Henderson (Ottawa/) led the Warriors with nine kills while middles
Danielle Kamps (Vineland Station/) and
Natasha Spaling (Drayton/) had seven and six kills respectively.
Shannon Lodoen (Waterloo/) chipped in with six kills of her own while playing strong defence with 14 kills. Setter
Mikaela Klie (/) had 26 assists in the contest.
For the Lions it was Melissa Humana-Paredes leading the way with a game high 15 kills. She also collected the most digs in the game with 21. Brandie Wilkerson had 13 kills while Brittney Hopley was solid at the net with five blocks. Kirsten Dillon picked up 53 assists in the win.
The Warriors will remain on the road next weekend with a match against Western on Friday followed by Windsor on Saturday. Both games are set for 6pm.
