Box Score Game Summary
The Warrior women's volleyball team did not start the New Year the way they'd hope with a disappointing 3-1 (24-26, 25-14, 25-19, 25-12) loss to the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday night in Thunder Bay.
In the first set it was clear that both teams were struggling to find their rhythm, with neither team getting more than a 3 point lead, mostly due to mental errors and sloppy play.
Lakehead would prove to be the team to pull themselves out of their rut first, and kept the Warriors on their heels in doing so. Lakehead's dynamic duo of Vanessa Chorkawy and Jorie Daymond were on a mission at the net, both offensively and defensively. Daymond led with 24.5 points (20 kills, 1 service ace and 3.5 blocks), while Chorkawy finished with 11 kills and 8 blocks for 17 points. Lakehead setter Sara Hudson finished the game with a whopping 49 assists and 3 digs.
Waterloo was led by
Kristen Sheffield (North Bay/) with 14 kills and 6 blocks.
Clara Tse (Hong Kong/) had 10 kills while
Danielle Kamps (Vineland Station/) finished the game with seven in the loss. Setter
Mikaela Klie (/) had 33 assists for the black and gold.
The Warriors will look to bounce back on Saturday when they face the Thunderwolves in the second match of the double header.
