Kelly MacLean (St. George/) scored two goals while
Emma McMillan (Hastings/) added one and
Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia/) stopped 38 shots as the Waterloo women's hockey team earned a crucial 3-1 win over the UOIT Ridgebacks as they continue to hunt down a playoff spot.
The win puts Waterloo in a tie for seventh place at 22 points (9-10-4) just one point back of Brock who holds the sixth and final playoff spot. UOIT dropped to 9-15-0 are find themselves five points out of the playoff picture.
Waterloo wasted little time gaining a 1-0 advantage in the game as
Emma McMillan (Hastings/) fired home her fifth goal of the season at the 4:43 minute mark of the opening frame.
Kate Wagner (Sauble Beach/) tallied the lone assist on the McMillan goal.
Only three minutes later
Kelly MacLean (St. George/) found the back of the net for the 12
th time this season to give her Warriors a 2-0 lead. Captain,
Caitlin Brydges (Ariss/) was credited with the assist on MacLean's first of two goals.
The Ridgebacks cut into the Waterloo lead midway through the second period as defenceman Violette Long (Oshawa, Ont.) slipped her first goal of the season past Bouwhuis. UOIT would have several chances to even the game in late in the second but Bouwhuis was equal to the task sending her team up by one into the final period.
MacLean would notch an insurance marker and her second of the game only three minutes into the third period on the power play. MacLean slipped the puck past Ridgeback's goalie Jessica Larabie (Pickering, Ont.).
Jessica Tracey (Woodslee/) picked up the helper on MacLean's team leading 13
th of the season.
Waterloo's rookie sensation Bouwhuis stood tall for the remainder of the game giving the Warriors the 3-1 in over the Ridgebacks.
The Warriors return to action tomorrow evening in Kingston in their final road game of the season against the Queen's Gaels.
