Warriors doubled up by Lancers 6-3; face Badgers in opening round of playoffs

The Warrior men's hockey team closed out their 2011-12 season with a 6-3 loss to the Windsor Lancers on Saturday night at Windsor Arena.

The Warriors finish the season with a 15-9-4 record, good for third spot in the OUA west and will face the Brock Badgers in the opening round of the OUA playoffs.  The Lancers closed out their regular season with a 15-12-1 record, good for fifth place and will face the York Lions who grabbed home ice advantage with a win over Western.
 
Windsor got on the board first just three minutes into the game as Isak Quakenbush scored his fifth of the season. Assisted were credited to Adam Feniak and Scott Todd.
 
Waterloo's Josh Woolley (Cambridge/) tied the game at 9:04 of the first to knot the game at one heading into the second period.
 
Lancer goaltender Parker Van Buskirk made some big saves, and the Lancer offence lit up the scoreboard in the second with four unanswered goals to take a significant lead heading into the final period.
 
Brett Vandehogen sent a nice pass over to Spencer Pommels at 7:53 of the period, before Evan Stibbard added his team leading 14th goal of the season to give the Lancers a two goal lead.
 
With a man advantage, Steve Ferry snapped one past Warrior goaltender Justin Leclerc (Saskatoon/) at 17:33 and Christian Steingraber added the team's fourth of the frame just over a minute later to close out the scoring for the period.
 
Ryan Green put up the Lancers second power play goal of the night at 7:17 of the third period. Green 12th goal of the season was set up by Brett Oliphant and Steingraber.
 
The Warriors got back on the board with their own power play goal at 14:56 with a goal from Josh Schappert (Winnipeg/). Waterloo then scored their final goal of the game at 18:19 from Tyler Moir (Calgary/).

Waterloo went 1-2-0 against the Badgers this season with none of the games being played at the CIF Arena as Waterloo lost 5-2 and 4-2 at the Seymour-Hannah Centre in St. Catharines while picking up their only win as the home team (3-1) at Ivor Wynne Stadium as part of the first ever OUA Outdoor Classic.
