The Warriors failed to win their second straight game for the first time this season after a hard-fought 3-2 loss to the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday.

The win advances the Gryphons to 6-2-1 and drops the Warriors to 2-6-2 on the season.

Today's game saw the berth of a budding rivalry between Guelph and Waterloo and as each team traded the lead, the physicality of the game increased.

Waterloo was first to score when Marissa Redmond (Ajax/), with help from Kelly MacLean (St. George/) and Lia Tennant (Kitchener/) wired off a shot that Brooke Siddall (Windsor) was unable to control. The Gryphons answered back minutes later, and were finally rewarded after several scoring chances, when Tam Bell (Guelph) combined with Kate Mora (Guelph) and Kim Wong (Mississauga) to earn the equalizer, tying the game 1-1 at 12:02.

The Gryphons took the lead at 18:55 when Mora and Bell combined again with Lanzarotta on the powerplay to advance the scoreboard to 2-0 for the home team.

During the second period, the Gryphons allowed the Warriors to muscle their way back into the game.  Sarah Wolfe (Waterloo/) notched a powerplay goal for the Warriors at 13:32 with help from Nicole Ballantyne (Toronto/) and Kaitlyn McDonell (Kincardine/) to tie the game 2-2 going into the third period.

The Gryphons scored the eventual game-winning goal early in the third period.  Pinkerton lit up the lamp after scoring on a rebound from Parkins, with help from Christine Grant (Mississauga, ON) to regain the lead.

The Gryphons were able to hold off the Warrior attack for the reminder of the game to take the game 3-2.

Siddall earned the win for the Gryphons stopping 13 shots on net, while Allie Mitchell (Niagara Falls/) stopped 20 of 23 shots on net.

The Warriors are back in action next Saturday for their think pink game when they welcome the UOIT Ridgebacks to the friendly confines of the CIF arena.  Puck drop is set for 2pm.
