Box Score Game Summary

The Warriors dropped a hard fought battle to the McMaster Marauders on Sunday afternoon by a score of 3-1 (25-19, 16-25, 25-15, 25-20).  The Warriors held a lead in every set played but the resilient Marauders battled back in three of four sets to earn the victory.

McMaster got off to a much slower start than in their previous match versus Guelph, and allowed Waterloo to jump in front 13-10 in the first set.  At that point Marauder Shannon McRobert came up to serve and ran off nine straight points to give her team a 19-13 advantage.  Waterloo tried to recover, but the Marauders maintained the momentum and won the first set 25-19.

The second set saw the Marauders continue to struggle and the Warriors again took an early lead, and were in front 16-10 at the technical timeout.   Poor passing plagued McMaster and Waterloo was able to take advantage and even the match with a 25-16 win.

The third set again saw Waterloo grab the early lead, but at 13-8 Mac's Lauren Skelly got into a serving groove and the Marauders took a 14-13 lead behind her strong service.  The Marauders led 16-14 at the technical timeout and outscored the Warriors 9 -1 to close out the set 25-15 and go up 2-1 in the match.

Waterloo started the fourth set looking determined to extend the match and jumped out to a 7-2 lead.  But again a Marauder got hot from the service line and served McMaster into an 8-7 lead.   McMaster maintained the lead and went into the technical timeout up 16-13.  Shannon McRobert continued to serve well and extended the Maroon lead after the timeout and McMaster won the set 25-20 to take the match.

Shannon Lodoen (Waterloo/) once again led the Warrior attack with 17 points on her 13 kills, three service aces and one block.  Outside, Clara Tse (Hong Kong/) was also a threat for the black and gold with her eight kills and staggering seven service aces.  Tse also added 14 digs in the match.  Kristen Bartmann (Uxbridge/) was solid defensively in the match with 18 digs while setter Mikaela Klie (/) had 33 assists in the loss.

The 2-6 Warriors wrap up 2012 next Saturday when they host the Toronto Varsity Blues at the PAC (8pm).
