Box Score Game Summary
The Waterloo Warriors dropped a nail-biter on Saturday afternoon to the Brock Badgers as part of their Think Pink game at the PAC. The Badgers snuck away with the 3-2 (11-25, 26-24, 19-25, 26-24, 15-13) victory to improve to 3-5 on the season. With the loss the Warriors fell to 2-5.
Little separated the two combatants and that was evident in the scoring line as the Badgers won all three of their sets by as little as two points.
For Waterloo it looked as if they were going to cruise to the victory after taking the first set 25-11 but the Badgers shook off their bus legs and found a way to pick up the win.
Leading the offensive attack for the Badgers was Haley Orr (London) who had 13 kills and one block. Orr also had 16 digs for her Badgers. Also chipping in was outside Jennifer McKenzie (Surrey) with nine kills. Libero Karlinna O'Leary (Whitby) led all players defensively with 17 digs in the match.
For Waterloo, athlete of the week
Shannon Lodoen (Waterloo/) continued her impressive rookie campaign with a game high 16 kills in the loss. Lodoen was once again a threat from the service line with four aces while adding 11 digs.
Outside hitters
Clara Tse (Hong Kong/) and
Gillian Henderson (Ottawa/) teamed up for 11 kills each while
Alice Li (Toronto/) had 14 digs for the black and gold. Setting for the Warriors was
Rachel Runnels (Ottawa/) who was impressive with 31 assists.
The Warriors, who deserved a better fate in this home match, will look to rebound tomorrow when they take on the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton. Game time is set for 1pm.
