Box Score Game Summary
In their first game of the 2012-13 season, the Warriors were able to walk away with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 26-24, 25-20) victory over the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday night on the road.
The Warriors had a kill percentage average of over 19 percent in the match compared to Guelph's 10 percent.
After dropping the first set the Warriors controlled the play, taking over the net and playing solid defence. The black and gold were led by second year exchange student,
Clara Tse (Hong Kong/) who had 14 kills on 28 attempts. Tse also recorded nine digs and one block.
Also having a strong match for the visiting side was
Gillian Henderson (Ottawa/) who tallied 11 kills, 13 digs, 3 blocks and two service aces. Rookie outside hitter
Shannon Lodoen (Waterloo/) also chipped in with eight kills. Playing solid defence was libero
Alice Li (Toronto/) who dug the ball 22 times. Li was instrumental in helping to stabilize the first contact and was clutch with several key digs throughout the match.
Leading the charge for the Gryphons was Julie Gordon (Barrie, Ont.) who led all players with 17 kills in a losing effort.
The Warriors have the rest of the week off before returning to action next Friday against the Ryerson Rams on the road followed by their home opener on Saturday, October 27 against the Ottawa Gee Gees.
