Game Summary
The Waterloo Warriors lost the rematch of the Outdoor Classic falling 4-2 to the home side Brock Badgers on Wednesday night in St. Catharines. Just three days ago the two teams met in what was the first ever OUA Outdoor Classic with the Warriors skating away to a 3-1 win.
Badgers senior defenceman Isaac Smeltzer (Estevan, Sask.) gave his team the lead at 12:37 of the first period on assists from Ryan Allen (Fort McMurray, Alta.) and Pat Henderson (Winnipeg, Man.).
With nine seconds left in the first period, the Badgers took a two-goal lead when Kaine Geldart (Kingston, Ont.) and Thomas Stajan (Mississauga, Ont.) set up sophomore Matt Abercrombie (Sarnia, Ont.) for his ninth goal of the season.
The Warriors cut the lead to 2-1 with the lone goal of the second period from
Thomas Cardiff (London/).
The Badgers re-established a two-goal lead when Kevin Christmas (Hamilton, Ont.) netted a powerplay goal at 7:41 of the third period. Assists went to Smeltzer and Sean Jones (Newmarket, Ont.).
Less than three minutes later,
Josh Schappert (Winnipeg/) scored a powerplay goal for the Warriors to make the score 3-2.
Chris Ray (Kelowna/) and
Joe Underwood (Canton/) were credited with the assists on the Schappert marker.
Badgers fifth-year senior Ryan Allen guaranteed two points for his team by scoring his fifth goal of the season at 18:22 of the third with an assist from Dylan MacEachern (Mississauga, Ont.).
Badgers goal Kurt Jory (Brandon, Man.) made 13 saves for the win. Warrior goaltender
Keaton Hartigan (Kitchener/) (Kitchener, Ont.) made 27 saves in the loss.
The Warriors remain in third place in the OUA west with 30 points (13-7-4), just two back of Lakehead but the Thunderwolves have two games in hand. The Badgers are 12-10-1 on the season just one point back of fourth place York.
