Women's volleyball lose back to back games on road

Windsor 3, Waterloo 1
(25-16, 25-19, 17-25, 25-22)

The Warriors fell to the last place Windsor Lancers on Friday night 3 sets to 1 to drop to 6-10 on the season.

 

The Lancer's capitalized on Warriors' mistakes and took a quick 7-point lead in the first set. Outplaying their opponents in long rallies, the Lancers were able to hold their lead and win the first set 25-16. The Lancers had 6 team blocks in the first set.

 

Despite a tighter second set, the Lancers were able to capture both technical's with a three-point lead. The Lancers sealed the victory with a four-point streak late in the set, taking it 25-19.

 

In the third set, the Warriors took their first lead of the match. It wasn't long before the Lancers tied it up, starting a back and forth battle to the second technical. Waterloo took control at the end of the game, winning 25-17.

 

Mackenzie Coyle opened the fourth set for the Lancers, going four straight from the line. After Waterloo closed in on the Lancers at 11-11 neither team was able to take more than a two-point lead until the Lancers finished it 25-22.

 
Kaila Seguin had 16 kills and 10 digs to be named Windsor's player of the game. Brianna Balzar had 7 kills and 11 digs, while Michelle Pierce chipped in 6 kills, 11 digs, 5 ace serves and Mackenzie Coyle had 5 kills, 18 digs. Jillian Fantuz had 35 assists and 3 ace serves.

Joanna Meltzer (Georgetown, Ont.) of the Warriors led the way with 11 kills and 12 blocks while Sarah Glassford (Acton, Ont.) had 10 kills and 6 digs.  Kayla Ng (London, Ont.) picked up 36 assists in the game.

The Warriors travel to London tomorrow to take on the high flying Western Mustangs.


Saturday, February 5 @ Western
Western 3, Waterloo 1 (25-20, 25-11, 28-30, 25-18)

The Warriors fell for the second straight night 3 sets to 1 to the Western Mustangs.

Western took the first two sets 25-20 and 25-11 before dropping the third set though 28-30 to Waterloo. Western won the fourth set 25-18.

The first set saw Sarah Johnston and Jenna Thomson put up huge blocks.  This carried the momentum right to the second technical timeout when Western led 16-10. There was not much else Waterloo could do to put up points and Western took the first set 25-20.

In the second set saw Western take control of the match once again only giving up 11 points to take a commanding 2 sets to 0 lead.

The third set was very evenly matched. Both teams went point for point in thrilling rallies until Waterloo capitalized on a Western error and took the set 28-30.

In what turned out to be the final set of the night, the Mustangs returned to their game to defeat Waterloo 25-18.

Joanna Meltzer (Georgetown/) led the Warriors with 13 kills and a staggering 23 digs.  She also added one solo block and one service ace.  Meaghan Loveday (Kitchener) had 9 kills on the night and 18 digs.  Kayla Ng (London/) had 27 assists.

Players of the game were Western's Thomson with 17 digs and two blocks and Sarah Glassford (Acton/) for the Warriors who had 6 kills and one service ace.

Waterloo, who has been mathematically eliminated from the playoff picture, will host their final games of the season next weekend against Ryerson and York at the PAC gym in Waterloo.
