Warriors sweep Rams; fall to Lions in Meltzer's final match as Warrior

Friday, February 11 vs. Ryerson
Waterloo 3, Ryerson 0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-9)

The Warriors easily swept the Ryerson Rams in straight sets on Friday night at the PAC to win their seventh game of the season. 

The young Waterloo squad improved to 7-11 with only one game remaining in the season while Ryerson fell to 1-17. 

Leading the offensive charge for Waterloo was outside hitter Sarah Glassford (Acton, Ont.) who totaled 12 points in the quick match, including 10 kills, nine digs and two solo blocks. 

Joanna Meltzer (Georgetown, Ont.) contributed offensively as well with nine kills and one assisted block.  Meltzer was also very strong on the defensive side of the ball with 11 digs.  Rookie setter Mikaela Klie (Cambridge, Ont.) saw some court time notching an impressive 31 assists in the game.

Jessica Broad (Courtice, ont.) led her team with five kills and eight digs in the losing effort.


Waterloo wraps up their 2010-11 season with a home game against York tomorrow evening at the PAC.

Saturday, February 12 vs. York
York 3, Waterloo 1 (25-17, 21-25, 26-24, 25-11)

The Warriors fell to a very strong York Lions team 3 sets to 1 in their final regular season game of the 2010-11 season on Saturday night at the PAC.  Outside hitter Joanna Meltzer (Georgetown, Ont.) played in her final game as a Waterloo Warrior and was recognized on senior night for her outstanding contributions to her team the past two seasons. 

Despite the loss, Metlzer showed her true passion for the black and gold earning 11 kills and two assisted blocks on the offensive side of the ball while adding an outstanding 15 blocks on the defensive side.

Rookie middle Danielle Kamps (Vineland Station, Ont.) had seven kills, one solo block and four assisted blocks to round out the attack.  Mikaela Klie (Cambridge, Ont.) had 28 assists in the game while adding 14 digs and libero Alice Li (Toronto, Ont.) laid out several times collecting 16 digs in the match.

For the Lions outside hitter Brandie Wilkerson of Brampton, Ont., was unstoppable with a total of 23 points including 19 kills, one solo block and four assisted blocks.  Sarah Sutton (Scarborough, Ont.) contributed 11 kills to add to the Lions attack.  Setter Gina Morphy (Ottawa, Ont.) set up her hitters 34 times in the game.

The Warriors finished the season tied for fifth spot in the OUA west while the Lions clinched first place in the OUA east and host the RMC Paladins in the OUA quarter-finals next Saturday.
