Hill, Hartigan shine as Warriors slip past Lions

Game Summary

Kirt Hill (Winnipeg/) scored two goals, including the game winner and Keaton Hartigan (Kitchener/) stopped 36 shots as the Waterloo men's hockey team slipped past the York Lions by a score of 4-3 on Thursday night in Toronto. 

The teams exchanged goals back and forth throughout the first two periods before Hill would add the insurance marker at 1:44 of the third period which would stand up as the winning goal.

With the win Waterloo improved to 6-3-1 on the season and sit alone in third place in the OUA west while York dropped to 3-5-3, good for sixth position.

Tyler Moir (Calgary/) opened the scoring for Waterloo six minutes into the game for his third goal of the season.  Colin Cawardine and Jeff Einhorn (Red Deer) picked up assists on the goal.  The Moir marker would be the lone goal of the period as Waterloo held a 1-0 lead going into the second period.

The Lions would find the equalizer four minutes into the second period as Jordan Forfar (Sutton, Ont.) fired one past Hartigan for his seventh goal of the season.  Hill would responds five minutes later for his first of two goals in the game with set-up man Chris Ray (Kelowna/) earning the assist. 

The Lions would once again tie the game up at 2-2 with Jordan Davies (Winnipeg, Man.) finding the net on one of York's 15 second period shots.  Ray would regain the lead for the Warriors on an individual effort for his fifth goal of the season.

Up 3-2 heading into the third period Hill would add his second goal of the game and team leading eighth of the season to give Waterloo the cushion they needed to secure the victory.  The Lions added a late period goal by Troy Barss (Barrie, Ont.) but it would not be enough as they would lose their fifth game of the season to the black and gold.

The Warriors look for their third straight win this evening as they battle the Western Mustangs at the Columbia Icefield Arena in Waterloo.  Puck drop is set for 7:30pm.
