The Warriors lost a marathon match by a score of 3-2 to the Brock Badgers on Friday night at the PAC gym in Waterloo.
Waterloo jumped out to an early lead narrowly edging the Badgers 29-27 with the visiting team responding in the second set 26-24. The third set would once again leave no room for error with the Warriors outlasting the Badgers 25-23. With Waterloo leading 2-sets-to-1, the Badgers responded winning the last two (25-20, 15-11) to win the match.
Seniors Katelyn Giesbrecht (Virgil, Ont.) and Shannon Anderson (Newmarket, Ont.) paced the Badgers with 21 points each. Giesbrecht notched her season-high 21 points on 20 kills and three block assists, while Anderson had 17 kills, three aces and two block assists.
For Waterloo, Laura Klein (Kitchener, Ont.) had a game-high 21 kills plus four block assists in the losing effort. Joanna Meltzer (Georgetown, Ont.) also chipped in 17 kills and a solo block while Meaghan Loveday (Kitchener, Ont.) had ten kills for the Warriors.
The loss dropped the Warriors overall record to 5-9 and will need a late season push to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Badgers improved to 9-7 and sit in the fourth and final playoff spot in the OUA west with 18 points.
Waterloo takes to the court once again tonight at the PAC as they host the 10-5 Ottawa Gee Gees.
