The Warriors were in search of their second straight win as they faced the Laurier Golden Hawks in the second battle of Waterloo this season. Waterloo was unable to string together consistent volleyball and fell to the Hawks 3 sets to 1 at the Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.
After the first two sets proved one set win for Laurier and one for Waterloo, the Hawks home court advantage and hard work propelled them past the Warriors in the next two sets winning by scores of 26-24 and 25-19. Overall, Laurier had more offensive kills on the night and five more blocked shots than Waterloo with 12.
The top player for the Hawks was Sarah Rosso (Waterdown, Ont.) who hit for 12 kills and helped defensively for 13 digs. Brittney Hopley (Thornhill, Ont.) had 11 kills, one service ace, and three total blocked shots. The setter Lauren Carter (Ottawa, Ont.) also played well as she contributed 35 assists and nine digs.
For the Warriors Joanna Meltzer (Georgetown, Ont.) had a team high 12 kills and added 15 digs. Meaghan Loveday (Kitchener, Ont.) had 11 kills on the night while Laura Klein (Kitchener, Ont.) had 10 and 19 digs.
The Warriors look to bounce back as they host a pair of games this weekend. The Brock Badgers visit the PAC on Friday night at 7:00 pm while the Gee Gees of Ottawa take to the court against Waterloo Saturday night.
