The Warriors won a thrilling five set match against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday afternoon as part of Think Pink weekend at Waterloo. The Warriors slipped past the Hawks 15-12 in the fifth and final set to even their record at 2-2.
The game went back and fourth for the first four sets as Laurier won the first set by a score of 25-20 and the third set by a score of 25-13. The Warriors managed to climb their way back into the game from being down two sets to one with a fourth set victory of 25-23 followed by a win in the fifth.
A pair of rookie outside hitters earned their court time and led the Warriors to victory on the afternoon. Meaghan Loveday (Kitchener, Ont.) continued her early season success with 14 kills and 7 digs on the afternoon. Gillian Henderson (Ottawa, Ont.) showed her skills in the young Warrior season with 10 kills of her own while adding 3 crucial service aces and 2 digs. Setter Kayla Ng (London, Ont.) had 33 assists on the afternoon and a staggering 15 digs.
Megan Gilmore (Cambridge, Ont.) was Laurier's star attacker as she found open space on the Warriors court 18 times. Two more services aces and one block gave her a total of 21 points. Other contributors to Laurier's team performance came from Victoria Crowley (Etobicoke, Ont.) the libero who kept the ball from hitting the floor with 29 digs and Tesca Andrew-Wasylik (Unionville, Ont.) the teams middle hitter who had 12 kills and 14 digs.
The Warriors (2-2) take their .500 record into St. Catharines this afternoon as they face the Brock Badgers at 2:00 pm.
