To be the best, you have to beat the best, and the Waterloo Warriors surging start to the season continued to epitomize that theme this past weekend, with Taytum Clairmont (Waterloo/) powering the team's latest wins against some stiff competition.

After her team got the scoring started against the No. 6 York Lions, Clairmont doubled the lead with what turned out to be the game-winner thanks to a short-handed effort halfway through the second period. Clairmont would then set up her team's next goal with the primary helper before putting a bow on the three-point night with an empty-netter to seal the win over one of the top teams in the country. With another tough test against Western on Sunday, the fifth-year forward would continue her productive campaign with another two goals. Tied at 1-1 entering the final period, the Waterloo, Ont. native took it upon herself to secure another crucial three points for Waterloo, netting the game-winner with just four minutes to play and icing the win with her fourth goal of the weekend.

Clairmont's impeccable efforts on the ice helped the black and gold rack up six points in the standings, pushing the team to a 7-2-1 record overall. The standout senior skater also turned her latest five points into a conference-lead in scoring, now with 15 points (8G, 7A) on the year.
