Jake Grimes, a veteran bench boss with over twenty years of junior hockey coaching experience, has joined the Warriors men's hockey program as a full-time Associate Coach for the 2022-23 season.
His resume speaks for itself: Grimes spent 15 seasons as an assistant and associate coach in the OHL, making stops in Belleville, Peterborough, and Guelph. Four times, he was part of the Team Ontario coaching staff at the World Under-17 Challenge (including twice as the head coach), and most recently, Grimes served as the head coach of the Cape Breton Eagles of the QMJHL from 2019-21. Grimes got his coaching start in U SPORTS, serving as an assistant with the Dalhousie Tigers men's program from 1996-2000.
Grimes is familiar with the life and demands of student-athletes, and the recruiting process for players exiting junior hockey – during his time in the OHL, he helped advise countless players on what program or academic situation was the best fit for them. For years, Grimes and Bourque often crossed paths during recruiting season, and former Warriors stars such as David Edgeworth, Kyle Sonnenburg, Steve Whitely, Joe Underwood, Brett Mackie, Steve Silas, and Adam Bignell played for Grimes in Belleville.
