Jessica Lawson

Jessica Lawson enters her second season as an assistant coach with the Warriors Field Hockey team, after having completed five years of playing defense from 2006 to 2011. In 2012 Jessica was named one of 19 OUA Woman of Influence at a luncheon at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville.  The event honoured female student-athletes who have excelled in their chosen sports, fields of study and community involvement. The guest speaker at the event was dual-sport national athlete, Olympic gold medalist and Waterloo alumnus Heather Moyse. 

During her time at the University of Waterloo, Lawson was the second Warriors player to receive the OUA and CIS Gail Wilson award which rewards exceptional human qualities, leadership and overall performance. Last season's Captain was also a co-chair of the uWaterloo IU Athletic Council and received the Director's Award for her outstanding service to the Warriors Athletics Department, as she was also a member of the Team-Up Youth Outreach Program for five years.
In addition to providing leadership and support to both her former coach and teammates, she has given back to the University of Waterloo and the Kitchener-Waterloo area by being an active member of the field hockey community. She is a certified umpire and has officiated high school games as well as U13, U16 and U18 club matches. She has played for teams in Cambridge and Waterloo in the Springfield Field Hockey Association as well as represented Field Hockey Ontario at the U16 and U18 FHC National Championships. She recently become an NCCP qualified coach and has assisted the K-W Dragons Club with their recreational teams and the U18 competitive squad. Jessica is now looking forward to stepping into a coaching role with the Warriors and learning even more about field hockey in that aspect.
As a graduate in Science and Business, she is now working in the Short Range Wireless Protocols team at Blackberry in Waterloo. In addition to playing, umpiring and coaching field hockey, she loves going shopping, watching movies, travelling and spending time with family and friends in her spare time.
