Job Scope
Our main objectives are to provide a fun, inclusive and safe atmosphere where kids can develop skills, try new activities, and expand their horizons. We accomplish these objectives by using hands on demonstrations, interactive activities, and skill challenging games. The Camp Assistant Coordinator is accountable to Keith Bray to aid in the promotion of sportsmanship, inclusivity, healthy living, and leadership, to all youth. The primary focus of this position is to support the Youth Camp’s vision, mission, and values by running successful summer camps. Meeting our goals and objectives will ensure a successful summer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· The Camp Assistant Coordinator will be responsible for actively coordinating, running, and participating in appropriate camp activities. They will be accountable to Keith Bray.
· The Camp Assistant Coordinator will aid in the planning and execution of any administrative tasks associated with Athletics and Recreation camps and Play Days
· The incumbent will collaborate with the Camps Coordinator in designing and running counselor training
· It is the Camp Assistant Coordinator's responsibility to learn and understand all activities in his/her camp curriculum. All staff should be comfortable with every activity.
· During the months of May and June the Camp Assistant coordinator will aid with the implementation of our Play Days. In July, August and September the Camp Assistant Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that the camp runs smoothly. During camp hours, the Camp Assistant Coordinator is responsible for ensuring adequate support to the Camp Coordinator, Counselors, Campers, and parents at all times.
· Additionally, during July, August and September, the Camp Assistant Coordinator will serve as role models to all campers, emphasizing process over product, positive language, leadership and teamwork.
· Furthermore, the Camp Assistant Coordinator will take on additional assignments and duties as needed.
Times and Hours of Work
· Employment of this shall commence on 05/05/2025 (Tentatively) up to and including 08/29/2025 - weekends excluded. This is subject to change with advanced notice
· For the period of your employment as specified above the camp hours are as follows, with additional expectations as denoted:
o Monday – Friday
o 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. during May & June
o 7:45 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. during July & August
Additional hours may be necessary to ensure that required tasks are completed on time and that camp is successful.
The incumbent can be expected to be at work between 7:25 to 7:30 AM on Monday mornings to ensure success with Monday Registration.
Staff will work anywhere from 35-40 hours per week dependent on needs of that specific week.
Expectations, Conduct and Behaviour
· All Management and University Leader Staff must be fully trained in Standard First Aid and CPR by May 5th, 2025. The Athletics and Recreation department will offer a first aid course prior to this date at a discounted rate if needed.
· All Staff are required to undergo an official police check and must submit proof of this by the end of their first day of employment with Athletics and Recreation. Police checks are the financial responsibility of the Staff. Police checks will need to be submitted to police services on campus prior to beginning play days.
· While employed by Athletics and Recreation, the behaviour of all staff members not only reflects upon the incumbent, it also reflects upon Athletics and Recreation, the University of Waterloo, and its sponsors. It is therefore expected that all Staff, act responsibly using good judgement, common sense, and courtesy at all times. Professional ethic in the Athletics and Recreation workplace is a must!
· Athletics and Recreation enforces strict confidentiality. Any Staff who breaches confidentiality is subject to immediate termination of employment.
· The use of profanity by any Athletics and Recreation Staff member is strictly forbidden. Smoking will not be permitted in the presence of children attending any Athletics and Recreation
programming. In addition, Staff will be expected to wear a staff uniform at all times during summer camp and at any Athletics and Recreation events where children are present.
· All Athletics and Recreation Staff must comply with the guidelines and code as defined in the Athletics and Recreation policy manual. A violation of policy may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination of employment.
· The University of Waterloo governs that operators of University vehicles must be over the age of 18 years, and proof of valid driver’s license is also required. The University carries liability insurance for said vehicles.
· However, any infractions, such as speeding tickets or other charges, are the sole responsibility of the vehicle operator.
· At all times, Athletics and Recreation staff will respect their fellow workers, as well as all University of Waterloo’s faculty and staff.

Salary
It is anticipated that as Camp Assistant Coordinator you will work anywhere from 35hours to 40hours per week, however hours can vary, at an hourly rate of $20.60 (this includes the 4% vacation pay that is added to each pay cheque). Athletics and Recreation may find it necessary to modify the number of weekly hours, depending on camp enrolment. Where a reduction of hours is necessary, two weeks advance notice will be given. Salaries are paid every two weeks and are subjected to routine government deductions.
