DESCRIPTION

Karate and Jujitsu Club (Goju-Ryu Karate Doh and Shindo Ryu Jujitsu)

About our club

Our instructors have over twenty five years of combined teaching experience and teach a core curriculum of traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-Doh and Shindo Ryu Jujitsu, with occasional classes in Kung Fu and Weapons. We are also available to teach women's self defense and sexual assault prevention.

Karate and Jujitsu are among the world's most popular martial arts. Karate is an ancient martial art with hundreds of years of development behind it. Karate which translates as “Empty Hand” is a fighting style involving body awareness, confrontation avoidance, mental focus, meditation practice, strikes, kicks, block, forms (kata), sparring as well as practical self defense. The addition of Doh or “Way” means that we practice Karate for personal development and not just for sport or self-defense. Okinawan Karate-Doh has a long history originating in Okinawa where it was influenced both Chinese and Japanese culture and fighting styles.

Jujitsu which translates as "Gentle art" is a more modern martial art developed originally as a mean for Samauri sword fighters to disarm each other in combat. Since its original development Jujitsu has evolved into an art which involves unarmed joint locking, throws, break falls, controls, grappling and submissions.

In our dojo we emphasize community, courtesy, safety, friendship, martial arts proficiency, and the spirit of Budo (way of the Warrior). We teach in a friendly and approachable environment. Additionally, we provide leadership development and teacher training to advanced level students.

Classes are available to try at any time, simply bring some comfortable workout clothes (avoid shorts and jeans).
