Job Description/Summary of Duties and Responsibilities of Position
The Department of Athletics and Recreation is looking for responsible, outgoing and enthusiastic camp counselors for a multi-sport and games summer camp at the University of Waterloo. Camp counselors will work with children ages 5-12 in indoor, outdoor and pool settings on the University of Waterloo campus. The University of Waterloo Athletics department serves the student population on campus and the wider city population through access to sport, and diverse programming, to enrich the student and local resident experience, promote wellness, and inspire all Warriors to reach their full potential. The MultiSport Youth programming is designed to provide a fun, inclusive, and safe atmosphere where kids can develop new skills, learn new activities, and become true Warriors! Participants learn to: compete fairly and with integrity, uphold good sportsmanship, develop leadership, and make healthy lifestyle choices.
- Greet parents and campers in a professional and energetic manner
- Lead safe and engaging programs for campers
- Act as a positive role model for campers and other camp staff while creating a welcoming and developmental environment
- Responsible for the direct safety and supervision of a group of 5-9 campers
- Be aware and attend to individual needs of campers to ensure a positive camp experience
- Incorporate camps values and missions into everyday activities and behaviors as well as adhering to camps policies and procedures
- Complete accurate incident reports and communicate to camp directors
- Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Volunteer or work experience with children, preferably in a recreational environment
- Displays enthusiasm, creativity, interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
- Outstanding customer service abilities
- Leadership skills and ability to work professionally under pressure
- Ability to maintain safety standards
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Interest and involvement in sports and recreation
- Previous camp or leadership experience is an asset
Times and Hours of Work
Guaranteed 30-38 hours per week from first week of July through last week of August

- While employed by Athletics and Recreation, the behaviour of all staff members not only reflects upon the incumbent, it also reflects upon Athletics and Recreation, the University of Waterloo, and its sponsors. It is therefore expected that all Staff, act responsibly using good judgment, common sense and courtesy at all times. Professional ethic in the Athletics and Recreation workplace is a must
- Athletics and Recreation enforces strict confidentiality. Any Staff who breaches confidentiality is subject to immediate termination of employment
- All Athletics and Recreation Staff must comply with the guidelines and code as defined in the Athletics and Recreation policy manual. A violation of policy may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination of employment
- At all times, Athletics and Recreation staff will respect their fellow workers, as well as all University of Waterloo's faculty and staff

Salary
$18.60 / hour
Additional Information:
- Successful candidates will be required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check through their local police department
- Successful candidates will be required to obtain a standard First with CPR C and AED (Courses run through the Athletics and Recreation department at discounted cost
