The University of Waterloo Department of Athletics and Recreation is seeking highly motivated and organized individuals to serve as Varsity Team Manager for the 2025-2026 season.  Under the direction of the Varsity Team's Head Coach, and the Interuniversity team, the student manager is responsible for assisting the varsity team coaching staff in the operations and administration of the team. 

These responsibilities will be fulfilled through assisting the coaching staff in a myriad of ways, which may include; 


IU Administration Support 

  • Assist with the collection of required forms 
  • Assist student-athletes in completion of forms where required 

Coach and Program Support (may include) 

  • Aiding facilities staff in pre-practice set-up (varies depending on the sport) 
  • Practice/game film video/breakdown/clipping 
  • Promoting, Networking, Social Media 
    • Assist with team social media accounts 
    • Attend team practices and games to generate media content 
    • Assist in the creation of promotional material for the team 
    • Interview players/coaches before games, at half-time, and after the game 

Travel/Games 

  • Dependent on sport, assist with uniform prep 
  • Assist coaches in ordering team meals 
  • Collect end-of-quarter/half stat sheets 

Marketing and Communications Support 

  • Social Media - Live posts during the games 
  • Game Recaps – Written recaps of varsity games posted on our website with images 
  • Photography – Headshots, varsity game action, special events  
  • Videography – In-game action, editing and creating content  
  • Support on-site youth teams when marketing student staff is unavailable for game days 

Equipment Services Support 

Equipment

  • Create a checklist of equipment a team manager would be responsible for preparing/collecting. 
  • Uniforms, equipment bags, towels, bench set-ups 
  • Organizing laundry on the road 

Apparel

  • Help check/track/issue/collect apparel that was ordered by the team 
  • If there is an interest in sport equipment maintenance, teaching of specific skills will be provided 

Strength and Conditioning 

  • Assist in data entry and collection 
  • Assist in generating reports 
  • Assist in managing attendance and administrative duties with team builder 
  • Assist with registrations, etc, for future Revenue Generation initiatives 
  • Assist with social media posts 

The incumbent must also act in accordance with documented policy and procedure guidelines and adhere to the University of Waterloo, OUA and U SPORTS policies and procedures. 

The student manager will work cooperatively with University of Waterloo Department of Athletics and Recreation staff and the Varsity Team Coaching Staff to complete required tasks. 


Requirements 

The ideal candidate will be a friendly, results oriented person with an ability to engage with student-athletes, department staff and the staff of opposing teams. 

Minimum requirements include being an University of Waterloo student and a commitment to complete required University of Waterloo training requirements. Some experience in sport, recreation, fitness, or an administrative context is preferred.

Managers will get the chance to enjoy many networking opportunities. Applicants who demonstrate leadership, initiative, and creativity may be invited to apply to continue in the role for a subsequent year. Team apparel may be provided. This is not a paid role. 


Time Expectations 

Time expectations will vary by sport, however applicants can expect limited involvement during December, with most sports complete by mid-March. Often practices/games/events take place in evenings and weekends.
