(rates based on hours worked at PAC Pool)

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Coordinator, Aquatics & First Aid and SPC – Operations & Instructional, the incumbent will provide quality swimming lesson instruction and lifeguard services to students and the community based on the LSS Learn to Swim program. 

 This is a casual part-time 4-month contract working from January - April 2026. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to emergency situations and perform rescue techniques and first aid
  • Maintain constant surveillance of members and guests in the pool and on the pool deck
  • Ensure that all safety and lifeguarding procedures are adhered to
  • Ensure members adhere to pool conduct rules and guidelines
  • Provide exceptional customer service to meet the diverse needs of members
  • Build and sustain relationships with new and existing members
  • Proactively address any member concern or issue related to pool safety and/or escalate them to the Operations & Aquatics Coordinator
  • Accountable for maintaining and upgrading certifications
  • Instructs learn-to-swim and lifesaving levels based on Lifesaving Society curriculum and prepares lesson plans for all levels.
  • Evaluates students' progress, completes accurately all forms and records including but not limited to worksheets, progress reports.
  • Occasionally performs light cleaning duties such as tidying storage and office area, deck sloshing, etc.
  • Participates in training/in-service as required, occasionally outside of regular working hours.
  • Maintains and ensures proper storage of all pool equipment. Places and removes lane lines and performs required pool testing, performs morning and evening maintenance checks and completes log sheets accordingly.

Qualifications & Skills: 

Lifeguard: 

  • Current LSS NLS - pool option
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C or CPR-HCP
  • Current LSS Emergency First Aid Instructor
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with focus on service delivery
  • Police and Vulnerable Sector Check

 

Instructor:

  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C or CPR-HCP
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain current LSS Swim Instructor
  • Current LSS NLS - pool option
  • Current LSS EFA Instructor
  • Current LSS Lifesaving Instructor
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Ability to get along with others including supervisors, coworkers, members of other departmental staff
  • Police and Vulnerable Sector Check

All qualifications must be current from the start of the term until the last day of the term (Jan.1-Apr.30; May 1-Aug. 31; Sept. 1-Dec.31).
