WATERLOO, Ont. – Swimming's Alex Boden (Dundas, Ont./Westdale Secondary School) and Figure Skating's Alex Lee have been named the W Store Warriors Athletes of the Week, presented by Imprint.
Boden impressed at the U SPORTS Swimming Championships over the weekend. The soon-to-be graduate set a personal best time of 1:58.36 to finish sixth in the men's 200m Butterfly. He also swam a season-best 53.61 in the men's 100m Butterfly, finishing 13th, while in the men's 50m Butterfly he finished 18th. Boden and his 4x100 Medley Relay team swam a University of Waterloo Record time to finish tenth wrapping up Boden's weekend.
"Boden capped off his university career with an outstanding final U SPORTS Championships... firmly establishing himself as one of Waterloo's top performers at the U SPORTS level," said Swimming Head Coach Jacky Beckford Henriques.
This is Boden's second Warriors Athlete of the Week award, both won this season.
Lee was in Toronto for the OUA Figure Skating Championships hosted by TMU, where she performed exceptionally well. Scoring 18 of the Warriors' 51 total points, she was a big factor in the team's fourth-place OUA finish. Lee's flawless skating saw her win a bronze medal in Gold Artistic, the first Gold Artistic medal in program history. She also took bronze in Senior Pairs and in Synchro, the first OUA medals in Senior Pairs for over seven years, and the first OUA medal in synchro for over 15.
"Her strong skating skills, creativity and flexibility shined on the OUA ice," said Warriors Figure Skating Student-Athlete-Head Coach Rebecca Brown (Waterloo, Ont./Waterloo Collegiate Institute).
This is Lee's first Warriors Athlete of the Week award.
