WATERLOO, Ont. — Entering Saturday afternoon on a 10-game winning streak and sitting third in the OUA standings behind Guelph, Laurier, and Carleton, the Waterloo Warriors saw their run come to an end with a 3–2 loss to the Carleton Ravens at CIF Arena.
Despite Carleton arriving as the lowest-ranked team in the league at 5–13, the Ravens delivered a disciplined, resilient performance and capitalized on key moments to steal a road win in front of 200 fans.
Carleton struck almost immediately, opening the scoring just 11 seconds into the game when Payton Miller scored unassisted to stun the home crowd. Waterloo settled in after the early setback and began to tilt the ice, outshooting the Ravens in the period. The pressure paid off at 8:43, when
Gracey Smith (Waterloo, Ont./Preston High School) tied the game, finishing a play set up by
Ashlyn Kroes (Milton, Ont./Craig Kielburger Secondary School) and
Katina Duscio (Kitchener, Ont./St. Mary's High School) to make it 1–1 after one.
The second period tightened up defensively, with both teams trading chances but struggling to find space through the neutral zone. Carleton regained the lead at 13:59 when Victoria Kay scored off a setup from Grace Wolsey, giving the visitors a 2–1 advantage heading into the third despite Waterloo holding the edge in overall play.
Waterloo came out with urgency in the final frame and was rewarded early. At 2:41,
Tatum James (Stratford, Ont./Northwestern Secondary School) converted on the power play, finishing a pass from
Tia Lascelle (Lancaster. Ont./Ontario Hockey Academy) and Nikki McDonald to tie the game at 2–2. The Warriors continued to press, generating sustained offensive-zone time and outshooting Carleton 19–3 in the period.
With the game appearing destined for overtime, Carleton found a late breakthrough. Kennedy Vickers scored with 21 seconds remaining at 19:39, netting the eventual game-winner to silence the crowd and secure the 3–2 victory.
Waterloo finished the night with a commanding 37–19 advantage in shots and held Carleton scoreless on all three power-play opportunities, while converting once on four chances.
Lauryn Busseri (St. Catharines, Ont./Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School) made 16 saves in goal for the Warriors, while Kaitlyn Langille turned aside 35 shots to earn the win for the Ravens.
Despite the result, Waterloo showed resilience and controlled large stretches of play, but the late goal snapped their 10-game win streak in a tightly contested matchup at CIF Arena.
