The Waterloo Warriors figure skating team delivered a standout performance at the 2025 OUA Figure Skating Championship, held March 4-5 and hosted by the TMU Bold. The Warriors secured their first gold medal in 11 years and earned multiple individual accolades.
The highlight of the competition came from Rebecca Brown (Waterloo, ON)Â and Annika Zamora (Georgetown, ON), who claimed first place in the Open Rhythm Dance event. This historic victory marked Waterloo's first OUA figure skating gold medal since 2014, cementing Brown and Zamora's place in the program's history. Their routine captivated the judges and set the tone for an impressive showing by the Warriors.
Adding to the team's success, Kaitlin Wilk (Mississauga, ON), Mikaela Moyer (Aylmer, ON), Isabelle Wang (Mississauga, ON), and Alexandra Mai Lee (Kingston, ON)Â secured first place in the Pair Fours Freeskate event, further demonstrating Waterloo's strength on the ice. For their gold medal performances, all six skaters were named OUA All-Stars.
Waterloo's achievements extended beyond the competition itself, as head coach Victoria Tough was recognized as the OUA Coach of the Year for the 2024-25 season. Her leadership and dedication have been instrumental in the team's progress, guiding the Warriors to their most successful championship in over a decade.
The team's passion and camaraderie were also on full display, earning them the prestigious Team Spirit Award, a testament to their energy, positivity, and unwavering support for one another.
Coming home golden, with multiple OUA All-Star selections, a coaching award, and the Team Spirit recognition, the Waterloo Warriors reaffirmed their presence as a force in OUA figure skating. Their performance at this year's championship signals a bright future for the program as they continue to build on this remarkable success.
