Coming off a big 72-55 victory the night before, the Waterloo Warriors carried their momentum into today's match up against the Algoma Thunderbirds, securing a 66-43 win with a strong all around performance.
The Warriors came out with confidence, making an impact on both ends of the floor with game changing steals and blocks that stifled Algoma's offense. Cristian Craciun (Ancaster, ON) and Isaac Watsa (New Hamburg, ON) knocked down big three pointers to help Waterloo establish an early lead. By the end of the first quarter, the Warriors were in control with an 11-4 advantage.
Algoma responded in the second quarter, tightening up defensively and increasing their offensive pressure. Isaiah McRae (Burlington, ON) found ways to generate points for Waterloo, but the Thunderbirds matched their energy, keeping the game competitive. Despite their efforts, Algoma still trailed at halftime as Waterloo maintained their lead.
The back and forth battle continued in the third, with both teams trading baskets. Rafael Llorin (Cambridge, ON) found his rhythm on offense, adding crucial points for the Warriors. As the quarter wrapped up, Waterloo kept their lead intact, heading into the final frame with a 43-35 advantage.
The Warriors put the game away in dominant fashion, outscoring the Thunderbirds 23-8 in the fourth quarter. A relentless defensive effort limited Algoma's scoring opportunities, while Waterloo's offense surged to seal the 66-43 victory.
The Warriors will look to keep their momentum going as they face the Western Mustangs on February 14 at 8:00 p.m.
