This Saturday, the Waterloo Warriors faced off against the Carleton Ravens in their final regular season match up. After three periods of intense hockey, the Warriors secured a commanding 5-2 win.
The Ravens came out strong, scoring twice to take an early 2-0 lead. However, the Warriors, known for their resilience, responded before the period's end. Gracey Smith (Waterloo, ON) put Waterloo on the board with a goal assisted by Sarah Bestic (Waterloo, ON), and just minutes later, Brodi Levitt (Caledonia, ON) netted the equalizer with help from Carly Orth (Bolton, ON). The period ended 2-2, with momentum swinging in the Warriors' favor. Waterloo also controlled much of the play, out shooting Carleton 16-10.
The second period started with an immediate push from the Warriors, and they took their first lead of the game when Nikki McDonald (Stoney Creek, ON) scored off a setup from Brodi Levitt (Caledonia, ON) and Carly Orth (Bolton, ON). The Ravens battled to even the score, forcing Waterloo's defense to stay sharp. As the period wore on, Carleton's discipline faltered, and a late penalty gave the Warriors a power play opportunity. They capitalized as Leah Herrfort (Palmerston, ON) found the back of the net, assisted by Carly Orth (Bolton, ON) and Lyndsy Acheson (Summerland, BC), making it 4-2 heading into the final frame.
Waterloo remained in control throughout the third, limiting the Ravens' chances while continuing to press offensively. Midway through the period, Brodi Levitt (Caledonia, ON) struck again, finishing a play set up by Nikki McDonald (Stoney Creek, ON) and Sarah Bestic (Waterloo, ON) to extend the lead to 5-2. The Warriors held firm in the closing minutes, sealing the victory and closing out their regular season on a high note.
With this strong finish, the Warriors head into the playoffs with momentum and confidence.
