Warriors Take on Top Caliber Competition at OUA Curling Championship

The 2025 OUA Men's Curling Championship took center stage at the Galt Country Club in Cambridge, Ontario, as 16 universities battled for provincial supremacy. Over three days of intense competition, the Waterloo Warriors put together a strong performance, finishing just shy of a national championship berth.

Waterloo opened pool play with a pair of victories on Friday, edging out the McMaster Marauders 6-5 before securing a commanding 9-4 win over the Windsor Lancers. Their momentum carried into Saturday, where they defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 10-6. However, their perfect record was snapped in the final round robin match, as they fell 11-3 against the undefeated Carleton Ravens. Despite the setback, the Warriors' 3-1 record was enough to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.

With only eight teams remaining, Sunday's knockout stage promised high stakes action. In the quarterfinal, Waterloo fought off the TMU Bold in a thrilling 8-7 victory to advance to the semifinals. Their championship hopes were dashed in a razor thin 6-5 loss to Carleton, forcing them into the bronze medal match against Brock. With the provinces final national championship berth on the line, the Warriors battled hard but came up short, falling 5-3 as Brock secured third place.

Although Waterloo missed out on nationals, the team's outstanding play was recognized with several accolades. Head coach Bridget Arnold was named OUA Coach of the Year, while vice Matthew Rowley (Markham, ON) earned First Team All-Star honors. Skip Riley Fung-Ernst (Oakville, ON) was also recognized, securing a spot on the Second Team All-Star list.

It was a hard fought weekend for the Warriors, who demonstrated their skill against Ontario's top competition. Despite falling just short of a podium finish, their impressive performance throughout the championship reaffirmed their status as a top contender in OUA curling.
