WATERLOO, Ont. - Football's Evan Astolfo (Burlington/) and baseball's Arthur Kowara (Etobicoke/) are this week's W Store Warriors Athletes of the Week, presented by Imprint.
Astolfo led the Warriors incredible comeback victory over the York Lions, scoring 14 of Waterloo's 34 points, including the game-winning field goal with under 30 seconds left to play.
"Evan showed off his leg, making all four of his field goal attempts on the day, including a 47-yarder," said football Offensive Coordinator Brendan Conway. "Evan also made the play of the game, recovering his own onside kick to put us in position to kick his game winner. Ice in his veins."
This is the freshman's second Athlete of the Week award in his first season with the Warriors. He broke the OUA record for longest field goal with a 57-yard game-tying score earlier this year.
Kowara also showed up big in clutch moments for the Warriors this weekend, as he led Waterloo to victory at the OUA Far West Regional Championship, helping his team punch their ticket to the 2025 OUA Baseball Championship, hosted by the Warriors this weekend.
The team captain and first basemen hit 8-16 over the weekend, scoring two home runs, three doubles, nine RBIs, and six runs scored, while accumulating a 1.663 OPS.
"Arthur made his presence felt every time he stepped in the box," said baseball Head Coach Ben Norris. "The newly named captain crushed two massive home runs against Western and was a run producing machine for the Warriors all weekend, en route to a 4-0 weekend and fourth consecutive Far West Regional Championship."
The 2025 OUA Baseball Championships get under way with the semifinal games Friday at Bechtel Park. The bronze and gold medal games will take place Saturday at Jack Couch Park. Admission is free.
