Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Warriors Battle, but Lions Prevail 3-1

The Waterloo Warriors brought intensity and determination to the ice on Wednesday evening as they faced the York Lions. The game showcased relentless efforts from both teams ending in a 3-1 victory for York.

Waterloo started strong, controlling the pace early with crisp passing and offensive zone pressure. Despite their dominance in the opening minutes, the Lions struck first with a deflected puck to take a 1-0 lead. Unshaken, the Warriors responded with a series of strong scoring opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net.

As the game progressed, the intensity ramped up. Owen Wilson (Oakville, ON) displayed stellar positioning on both ends of the ice to keep Waterloo in control, while Tate Popple (Brandon, MB) led the offensive charge, generating key chances close to the net. The Warriors' quick breakouts forced York to scramble defensively, and a huge save by goaltender Matt Onuska (Waterloo, ON) during a power play kept the game within reach. However, York extended their lead to 2-0 late in the period.

Waterloo continued to battle in the third, determined to overcome the deficit. Their perseverance paid off when Jaxson Murray (Waterloo, ON) and Tate Popple (Brandon, MB) executed a seamless give and go on the power play, with Jaxson Murray (Waterloo, ON) finding the net to close the gap to 2-1. Despite dominating in shots and maintaining offensive pressure, the Warriors couldn't complete the comeback. In the final minute, the Lions sealed the game with an empty net goal.

The Warriors will now turn their focus to Saturday, January 11, traveling to face the Concordia Stingers at 7:00 p.m.
