Warriors Drop Tough Game Against Mustangs

The Waterloo Warriors took to the court this evening, facing a tough challenge against the Western Mustangs.

From the opening tip-off, both teams came out with energy, pushing the tempo and generating early offense. Waterloo found a spark through Kiran Chadwick-Rupp (Victoria, BC), who not only put up points but also controlled the boards with key rebounds. However, Western capitalized on their opportunities, and despite some strong defensive stops by the Warriors. The Mustangs closed the frame ahead, 24-16.

The second quarter saw Western tighten their grip on the game, extending their lead as Waterloo struggled with turnovers. The Mustangs took full advantage of these possessions, converting them into fast break points and controlling the narrative of the quarter. By halftime, Waterloo found themselves in a deep hole, trailing 50-30.

Coming out of the break, Western continued to apply pressure, opening the third quarter with an 8-0 run that forced an early Warriors timeout. Looking to shift momentum, Waterloo responded as Ross Pockar (Calgary, AB) attacked the rim to put points on the board. Isaac Watsa (New Hamburg, ON) then electrified the home crowd with a deep three pointer, briefly reigniting the Warriors' offense. However, the Mustangs remained in control, keeping their lead intact.

In the final quarter, Western sealed their dominant performance, maintaining their high powered offense while closing out the game efficiently. When the final buzzer sounded, the Mustangs secured an 87-52 victory.

The Warriors will look to regroup as they prepare for their next match up against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday night at 8:00 p.m.
