Warriors Glide into the Season with Strong Performances in North Bay

The Waterloo Warriors Nordic Skiing team is in peak form, having spent the fall preparing for the season. With a focus on fitness and skill development, the team is ready with speed to tackle the challenges of competition now that the snow has arrived.

Their season began at the North Bay Nordic Ontario Cup, where the Warriors competed in a two day event that highlighted their season preparations.

The racing kicked off with a ten kilometre interval start freestyle race. Fresh snowfall made ski waxing tricky, but the expertise of Coach DeFazio ensured the Warriors were equipped with the fastest skis on the course. The team posted competitive times and established themselves as strong contenders on day one.

Day two featured a pursuit style classic race, with starting positions determined by the results of Saturday's freestyle race in a chasing format. The seven kilometre course, combined with chilly temperatures and ideal grip conditions, provided the perfect stage for the Warriors to demonstrate their technical ability and endurance. With a strategic focus instilled by Coach Granstrom, the team powered up steep climbs and maintained strong form throughout the race.

Across the weekend, the Warriors completed seventeen kilometres of racing, with several athletes achieving impressive combined times near the one hour mark. These performances reflected their dedication and the success of their off season training.

As the OUA Championships approach in late February, the team is determined to build on this momentum and continue putting in the work.
