This evening, the Waterloo Warriors faced off against the Laurier Golden Hawks in a tightly contested game.
Laurier opened the scoring, but an offensive rebound by Nehita Oko-Oboh (Ottawa, ON) quickly generated the Warriors' first points to even the score. The first quarter showcased balanced play, with both teams exchanging baskets and refusing to give ground. At the end of the opening frame, Laurier held a slim 15-14 advantage.
The Warriors came out strong in the second quarter, sinking the first basket and maintaining steady pressure. Both teams displayed sharp defensive intensity, but a clutch three pointer from Yemi Oladipo (St. Catharines, ON) sparked momentum for Waterloo. Kymora Stafford (Toronto, ON) proved unstoppable on the left side, delivering crucial buckets to push the Warriors ahead. With fast paced ball movement on both ends of the court, Waterloo closed out the half leading 33-27.
The third quarter marked a shift in favor of the Golden Hawks. Tightening their defense and executing efficient shooting, Laurier erased the deficit and reclaimed the lead. While the back and forth battle continued, the Golden Hawks' strong play gave them a 45-42 edge heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth, the Warriors fought relentlessly to regain control. Laurier's defense remained firm, forcing Waterloo into challenging long range shots. Despite a spirited mid quarter rally and a key late steal by Yemi Oladipo (St. Catharines, ON), the Warriors couldn't quite close the gap. Laurier emerged victorious, securing a 64-59 win in a game that lived up to the intensity of the University Avenue rivalry.
Next up, the Warriors face the Guelph Gryphons tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
