This Friday evening, the Waterloo Warriors took to the court against the Laurier Golden Hawks.
Laurier opened the scoring with a three pointer, setting the tone for the game. The Golden Hawks' high energy and shooting efficiency allowed them to pull ahead early, despite the Warriors' defense securing rebounds on several loose balls. Waterloo relied on Isaiah McRae (Burlington, ON) who put up crucial points to keep the game competitive. At the end of the first quarter, the Warriors trailed 18-14.
The Warriors tightened their defense in the second quarter, forcing early turnovers that disrupted Laurier's rhythm. Kiran Chadwick-Rupp (Victoria, BC) drained a critical three pointer, energizing Waterloo's offense and narrowing the gap. Both teams elevated their intensity, with blocks, steals, and rebounding becoming decisive moments in the quarter. However, shooting struggles plagued both sides as the half ended with Laurier holding a 34-24 lead.
The Golden Hawks came out strong after halftime, sinking back to back three pointers to extend their lead. Waterloo fought back with notable plays, including a football-like interception from Cristian Craciun (Ancaster, ON), but Laurier's defense proved too strong, blocking the Warriors' attempts to convert key possessions. Laurier's offensive momentum carried them through the quarter, further widening the gap.
As the fourth quarter progressed, Laurier solidified their dominance. Their offensive power, balanced with tactical defensive plays, left the Warriors struggling to keep pace. Despite their efforts, Waterloo fell behind, and the Golden Hawks secured the win.
Up next, the Warriors will take on the Guelph Gryphons tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.
