Warriors Battle Back, But Badgers Secure Shootout Win

The Waterloo Warriors faced off against the Brock Badgers at home in an exciting and hard fought match up. With Madison Pritchard (Richards Landing, ON) skating in her 100th career game, the team looked to put on a strong performance. Both squads entered the contest with intensity, delivering a back and forth game with an electric crowd presence.

In the first period, the action was evenly matched, with both teams battling for control. The Warriors faced an early penalty, but their penalty kill showcased the lockdown defense that is a hallmark of their game. As the period progressed, Waterloo began to take offensive control, keeping the puck locked in Brock's zone and building momentum. Late in the period, the Badgers created several close chances, but the first period ended scoreless.

The second period brought an increase in intensity, with both teams generating prime scoring opportunities within the opening minute. Goalie Kara Mark (New Hamburg, ON) was stellar throughout the period, making key saves despite the Badgers' efforts to screen her. Midway through, Brock capitalized on their offensive push to break the deadlock and take a 1-0 lead. Late penalty trouble for the Warriors proved costly, as Brock added another goal, leaving Waterloo trailing 2-0 heading into the third period.

The Warriors came out firing in the third, bringing relentless pressure from the start. Their efforts paid off as Brodi Levitt (Caledonia, ON) tapped in a goal after great passing from Keiara Raitt (Ancaster, ON) and Lyndsy Acheson (Summerland, BC). This cut the deficit to 2-1, energizing the team. The physicality ramped up, with puck battles in the corners becoming pivotal for maintaining possession. Late in the period, Carly Orth (Bolton, ON) collected a puck in the slot and fired a clutch shot to tie the game at 2-2, with assists from Leah Herrfort (Palmerston, ON) and Nikki McDonald (Stoney Creek, ON). A late penalty by Brock gave the Warriors a power play opportunity heading into overtime.

Waterloo's speed and control were on full display in the overtime period. The Warriors maintained possession and generated multiple chances, including a near game winner when Leah Herrfort (Palmerston, ON) set up Carly Orth (Bolton, ON) for a one timer that was blocked by an epic save. Carly Orth (Bolton, ON) had another major opportunity later in overtime that brought fans to their feet, but the period ended without a winner, leading to a shootout.

In the shootout, both goalies were exceptional, stopping the first three shooters from each team. In the extra round, the Badgers managed to slip one in to secure the win.

Up next, the Warriors will face the Guelph Gryphons on January 26 at 2:30 p.m.
