Warriors Fall to Gryphons Despite Fourth Quarter Surge

This Saturday evening, the Waterloo Warriors squared off against the Guelph Gryphons in an intense match up that showcased high energy and fierce competition.

The game opened with Guelph surging to an early 10-0 lead, capitalizing on their speed and ball movement. A massive defensive block by Isaac Watsa (New Hamburg, ON) shifted momentum, igniting a rally for the Warriors as they began to find their rhythm. By the end of the opening quarter, Waterloo trailed 16-7.

The second frame was more evenly contested, with neither team scoring on their opening possessions. The Warriors struck first, but the Gryphons quickly responded in a balanced back and forth exchange. Heading into halftime, Guelph maintained a 36-24 lead.

Both teams continued their battle after the break, fighting relentlessly for control. Early on, Rafael Llorin (Cambridge, ON) made a key steal which demonstrated the Warriors' determination to stay in the game. Despite their efforts, Guelph managed to extend their lead, but Waterloo remained within striking distance entering the final stretch.

The last quarter saw the Warriors elevate their play on both ends of the court. Tightening their defensive approach and increasing offensive pressure, they created numerous scoring opportunities. Isaiah McRae (Burlington, ON) delivered clutch points to narrow the gap, but despite their dominant push, Waterloo ultimately fell short, losing 73-63.

The Warriors now look to bounce back as they hit the road to face the McMaster Marauders on January 18.
