Warriors Fall in Overtime Battle Against Lancers

Friday evening saw the Waterloo Warriors face off against the Windsor Lancers on the road in a thrilling match up that ended with a 3-2 overtime loss.

The game opened with high energy from both teams, setting the tone for an exciting night of hockey. The Warriors struck first as Sarah Bestic (Waterloo, ON) and Carly Orth (Bolton, ON) connected with Nikki McDonald (Stoney Creek, ON), who buried the puck to give Waterloo an early 1-0 lead. However, the Lancers responded almost immediately, leveling the score at 1-1. Despite fast paced play and strong offensive pushes from both sides, the remainder of the period ended without further scoring.

The intensity carried over into the second frame, with neither team backing down. Midway through the period, the Lancers capitalized on an opportunity, netting the lone goal of the period to take a 2-1 lead. Waterloo pressed for an equalizer but couldn't solve Windsor's defense before the horn sounded.

The Warriors came out strong to start the third, and Erika Porter (Mississauga, ON) wasted no time tying the game at 2-2 on a power play goal assisted by Emma Thornton (Kitchener, ON). The teams traded possession and the Lancers fired numerous shots on net as the period wore on, but stellar goal tending from Kara Mark (New Hamburg, ON), kept the score even, sending the game into overtime.

In the extra frame, the Warriors came out aggressive, dominating early possession with Carly Orth (Bolton, ON) leading a strong fore check to keep the puck deep in the Lancers' zone. Despite Waterloo's efforts, Windsor's defense held firm and turned the tide with chance midway through overtime. The Lancers seized the moment, scoring the game winning goal to secure a 3-2 victory.

The Warriors will look to bounce back as they head to London to face the Western Mustangs tomorrow evening.
