This Saturday afternoon, the Waterloo Warriors faced up against the McMaster Marauders in an action packed double header.
Game one began with the Marauders taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning. However, the Warriors played a strategic and methodical game, gradually closing the gap. Warriors pitcher Max Todd (Paris) brought a fast, powerful performance that the Marauders struggled to handle.
The Warriors' first run came in the fourth inning when Sam Grant (Toronto) batted in Cody Hagerman (Whitby). Shortly after, Adam Leatherland (Simcoe) scored, tying the game 2-2 in the fifth inning. As the sixth inning progressed, both teams made pitching changes. Aidan Armitage (Waterloo) took the mound for the Warriors, tasked with closing out the game.
The Warriors executed a decisive play to secure the win. Hagerman started off by reaching first base, stealing second, and then being substituted by Owen Coyle (Toronto). Coyle advanced to third base from a hit by Jayden Kemp (Nassau, Bahamas). The game-winning run came as Grant batted Coyle home from third. To seal the victory, Armitage faced three batters in the final inning, recording three outs to end the game.
In the second game, both teams were energized and ready for more action. The Warriors, showing their tactical prowess, mounted a comeback. By the fifth inning, they had closed in on the Marauders, eventually overtaking them with a score of 7-6. Further, the Warriors extended their lead to 8-6. Once again, Armitage took on the closing role and delivered as expected, with fast, well-placed pitches that proved difficult for the Marauders to make contact on.
Today's games were both displays of the Warriors high baseball intelligence, great base stealing, and consistent efforts. Up next, the Warriors will take on the Western Mustangs in another double header tomorrow in London, ON.
