Warriors Fall Short Against Badgers Despite Fourth Quarter Push

Today, the Waterloo Warriors faced off against the Brock Badgers at Bob Davis Gymnasium in St. Catharines. Despite a spirited fourth quarter push, the Warriors couldn't overcome the Badgers' early lead, finishing with a 73-59 loss.

The Badgers came out with intensity, quickly jumping to an 8-0 lead before the Warriors called an early timeout. Although the timeout helped steady the Warriors' defense, it was several minutes before either team managed another basket. Waterloo broke their drought, but Brock regained momentum, extending their lead to 10-2. Yemi Oladipo (St. Catharines) high pressure defense created crucial turnovers, while Nehita Oko-Oboh (Ottawa) provided a much needed offensive spark with back to back buckets and key defensive blocks. However, Brock maintained control, ending the quarter up 24-10.

The Warriors struck first in the second quarter, but the Badgers responded with a steady scoring run, capitalizing on their free throw opportunities. Brock's free throw consistency, going 10 for 11, proved essential in holding back the Warriors. Although Waterloo kept pace with Brock's scoring this quarter, narrowly trailing 16-15, the Badgers still led 40-25 at halftime.

Brock expanded their lead in the third quarter, applying heavy defensive pressure that forced numerous Warriors turnovers and converted them into points. Waterloo responded with an improved rebounding effort, matching Brock on the boards. The Warriors' defense showed strength, forcing two shot clock violations against the Badgers, but the scoring gap remained, with Brock ahead 58-40 by the end of the quarter.

The Warriors outscored the Badgers 19-15 in the final quarter, demonstrating impressive tenacity on both ends of the court. Despite this late push, the early deficit was too large to overcome, and the game ended in a 73-59 win for Brock.

Up next, the Warriors return home to take on the Queen's Gaels on Friday at 8:00 p.m.
