Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Warriors Secure 2-0 Victory Over York Lions

This past weekend, the Waterloo Warriors faced off against the York Lions in a tightly contested battle that kept fans on edge.

The game opened with a quick strike from Kassidy McCarthy (Bowmanville, ON), who sniped a goal early to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Despite the early advantage, the Lions responded with relentless offensive pressure, outshooting Waterloo 12-7. York's aggressive attack forced the Warriors' defense to stay sharp, and the low scoring first period set the stage for a tense showdown.

In the second period, both teams fought to gain an edge as the intensity grew. The Warriors' precision passing took center stage, with tic tac toe sequences that demonstrated their control and composure. However, York countered with strong defensive plays, preventing Waterloo from extending their lead. Each close call and near miss amplified the tension, as neither team could break through, leaving the outcome increasingly uncertain.

The third period saw the game's energy reach a fever pitch. Midway through, Leah Herrfort (Palmerston, ON) displayed high energy forechecking and sparked an offensive surge as the Lions got into penalty trouble. With a five on three chance, Waterloo generated several chances, but York's penalty kill stood firm. The momentum swung once again when the Warriors faced a penalty of their own, and York pushed hard for an equalizer. However, Nikki McDonald (Stoney Creek, ON) capitalized on a turnover with a brilliant shorthanded breakaway goal, sealing a hard fought 2-0 victory for Waterloo.

The Warriors now look ahead to their next challenge against the TMU Bold on Friday, November 29, at 6:15 p.m.
