Waterloo Drops Close Match to Queen’s in Five Sets

The Waterloo Warriors faced the Queen's Gaels in a highly anticipated match on Saturday, with both teams entering the weekend with stellar records. The contest lived up to expectations, as the Warriors and Gaels pushed each other to the limit in a thrilling five set battle.

The Warriors started strong, showcasing immense power and taking an early lead. However, Queen's regained control midway through the opening set, rallying to secure a narrow 25-23 win. It was clear from this set that this match would be tightly contested.

Momentum shifted heavily in Queen's favor during the second set. The Gaels built an early lead that grew as the set progressed, fueled by big swings and zero errors. Waterloo struggled to match their aggressive hitting, falling 25-13.

The Warriors responded in the third set by returning to their signature style of play. The Warriors minimized unforced errors and ramped up their offense, significantly improving their hitting percentage. Standout performances from Rachael Meilikhan (Toronto) and Avery Kelly (Calgary) powered the team to a 25-20 win, shifting the momentum back in their favor.

Building on their third set success, the Warriors maintained control in the fourth set. With fewer errors and an even stronger offensive showing, they overcame pressure from Queen's to win 25-22, forcing a decisive final set. A timely ace from Rachael Meilikhan (Toronto) early in the set set the tone for Waterloo's continued fight.

In the fifth and final set, Queen's regained their energy and composure, narrowly outlasting the Warriors 15-12 to secure the match 3-2. Despite the loss, Waterloo's resilience and determination shone through in a hard fought contest.

Up next, the Warriors will face the Trent Excalibur on November 29th at 6:00 p.m. on home court.
