Nolan Misa's (Markham/) stellar four-hit performance led the Waterloo Warriors 2024 to a 5-2 triumph over the Windsor Lancers 2024 at Dan Pulham Field on Saturday. Misa, who doubled in the sixth and singled in the first, third, and fifth innings, was pivotal in helping the Warriors secure the win.
The Warriors took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Alessandro Strazzeri's (Toronto/) groundout drove in a run. Windsor briefly captured a 2-1 lead in the fifth, courtesy of a Will Cockram RBI single and a hit-by-pitch that brought Stephen Whalen (Heidelberg/) home.
However, the Warriors responded in the bottom of the fifth with Misa and Klaus Aplevich (Siegen/) combining for two key RBIs, regaining the lead 3-2. Pitcher Matthew McKelvey (Dundas/) shut down the Lancers over four innings of relief, allowing just one hit, striking out five, and walking none to earn the win.
Jake Ray got the start for Waterloo, giving up two runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out six. Windsor's starter Kaden Vecherik surrendered three runs over four and one-third innings, while Aidan Armitage (Waterloo/) closed the game for the Warriors with a scoreless inning.
Waterloo's offense racked up 11 hits, with Aplevich contributing two in addition to Misa's outstanding performance. Despite Windsor's defensive efforts, including a double play and error-free fielding, the Warriors' consistent hitting sealed the game.
The Warriors will rematch the Windsor Lancers at 3:00 PM this afternoon in the OUA Far West Regional Finals.
