Box Score 2 The No. 9 Waterloo women's hockey team got back on track after a tough home loss to the Badgers this past Tuesday with two impressive wins over the Western Mustangs.
On Friday night at the CIF Arena,
Leah Herrfort (Palmerston, ON/) had an outstanding night with a goal and two assists to lead the Warriors past the Mustangs by a score of 4-0. Herrfort scored the games opening goal on a beautiful shot at 11:32 of the first period before
Lyndsy Acheson (Summerland, BC/) tallied her first career goal early in the second period to put the black and gold up 2-0 heading into the third.
Krystin Lawrence (Tecumseh, ON/) added an important insurance marker just 29 seconds into the third, for her third of the season while
Tatum James (Stratford, ON/) also found the back of the net in the final frame to secure the 4-0 victory. In net,
Mikayla Schnarr (Waterloo, ON/) picked up her league leading sixth shutout of the season turning aside all 21 shots faced.
On Saturday, it was the Mustangs who drew first blood but the Warriors came back firing with three goals in 11 minutes to take a 3-1 lead into the second period.
Megan Fergusson (Kitchener, ON/),
Brooklyn Cole (Kitchener, ON/) and
Carley Olivier (Sudbury/) all found the back of the net to give Waterloo the two goal advantage. Fergusson added assists to both Cole and Olivier's goals giving her a three point first period.
Carly Orth (Caledon, ON/) scored one in the middle frame while Olivier added her second of the game off a beautiful blocked side short to make it a 5-1 final. With her two goals on Saturday and two assists from Friday Olivier added to her season total in point, giving her 12 (5g, 7a) on the year just one back of Herrfort who leads the Warriors with 13 (4g, 9a).
Waterloo will be back in action on Thursday night in St. Catharines to face the Brock Badgers at 7:15pm before closing out the regular season at home on Saturday at 7pm for Senior Night as well as Alumni and Donor Appreciation Night.
