Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warriors fall short in season opener

The Waterloo Warriors men's basketball team could not complete the comeback in Thunder Bay this past weekend, dropping their first OUA regular season contest to the Lakehead Thunderwolves 63-58.

On Saturday night the Warriors found themselves in a back and forth opening frame that saw the Thunderwolves take an early 19-14 lead after one. Some great work defensively by the Warriors kept them in the game for most of the first half, however Lakehead would add on to their lead, stretching it to 10 at halftime.

The Warriors would not go away however as a determined group came out flying in the third quarter on both ends of the floor. Lakehead would be held to just 12 points in the frame and the score would be all tied at 44-44 heading into the fourth. Both teams would trade blows throughout the fourth quarter, however the Warriors would come up just short in a valiant effort on the road to open the campaign.

Leading the way for the Warriors was Kanayo Nnadi (Kitchener, ON/Eastwood Collegiate) with 16 points while first year guard Christian Craciun added 14 and second year forward Stefan Djukic (Kitchener, ON/) notched his first career double-double with a 10 point and 11 rebounds.

The Warriors will travel to Toronto Friday night to take on the Toronto Metropolitan University Bold before hosting the Windsor Lancers Saturday night for their OUA home opener at 8:00pm on Carl Totzke Court in the PAC.
